Magic Drops

Today was a long day.  It started at 6:30 and we went from place to place at MD Anderson.  Blood, x-rays, consult, paperwork, etc.  But, at about 1:00 today Shawn Jr received his first immunotherapy treatment.  They administered the 2 medicine immunotherapy threatment via an IV drip.  Dr. Hwu called it the “cannon” treatment.  It is aggressive but he thinks Shawn Jr can take it based on his age and overall good health.  It took about 3 hours.  For the first time, he is getting a treatment that (fingers crossed) is actually making him better and not just treating the symptoms of his cancer.  I called it the “magic drops.”  But, I know that the real magic is God’s healing power.  We are praying that God will supernatural intervene and totally heal Shawn.  But, if that is not God’s will, then let us fight through this cancer with the help of this medicine and these wonderful healthcare professionals.  

After his treatment we went by the head and neck center to have the pack on his scalp removed.  He was happy to finally have that thing removed.  

So, in the last 48 hours he has had the drain in his neck removed, the pack on this scalp removed and received his first immunotherapy treatment.  That is huge.  

Walking out of the hospital and getting into our car I felt peaceful and optimistic.  Not sure why.  I know lots of people were praying for Shawn Jr today and maybe God was smiling on us.

    Awesome update!!! Positive thoughts daily for him!! The vein finders are def cool. They had to use one one Aubri when she was in the hospital at 10 months old for a kidney infection.

2 Years - July 11th is Always a Hard Day

Shawn Jr died two years ago today.     That means 730 days have gone by since we watched Shawn Jr take his last breath.    Sometimes it still feels like yesterday.   Shawn’s death is now the milestone that we use for everything in our family.    When we are talking about events, we always reference if the event was before or after Shawn Jr died.    This weekend our family is in Los Angeles at the wedding of Bryan Knostman, one of Shawn Jr’s very best friends.    Josh is standing in for Shawn Jr as a groomsman.    Almost of all of Shawn Jr’s best friends are here.    It’s hard to see this group of people together without him.     He would have loved to be here with this crew celebrating Bryan getting married to Jess.    It is such a bitter sweet moment.  Watching Shawn’s friends hit major life milestones is a difficult reminder that he is not here and had so much life ahead of him.    His friends are graduating college, getting married, starting their first jobs and having children.

Shawn Jr Went Home

Shawn Jr left this earth at 10:56 this morning.  We were right by his side.  He was peaceful.   See information about his memorial service  here . “ For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans‬ ‭8:38-39‬ ‭NIV‬‬
